Top Gear Interview
| Quote: |
What's your earliest memory of a car?
Triumph Herald 60, sitting in the back seat gawping at everything that went by. The Sixties was the heyday of motoring... The cars had personalities.
What's the fastest you've ever driven?
If I tell you will it get me into trouble? I wasn't in the UK doing this, I might add, as it was on an empty Italian road. I was going at 195mph.
When and where are you happiest in a car?
Probably, Italy. God bless the Italians. They're the only police who actually encourage you to go faster.
What's the secret of pulling at the traffic lights?
Being a rock star is an enormous bonus. But I don't think I ever have, as it's not my style.
What's the nastiest thing you've ever done in a car?
Depends on what you mean by nasty... Had a great blow job once in a car.
'Bloody hell, there are lots of cars I'd like to drive, but Audi's Le Mans car is right up there'
You've got all weekend to drive from London to the south of France; what's the car and who's in the passenger seat...
Well, a nice lady, my credit card in one hand, toll change in the central gubbins bit. The car is my 550 Maranello: an all time great. No poofing with the automatic, I've got a manual. I did Rome to Calais in 13 hours - Gumball Rally drivers beware.
...and what's on the stereo?
Led Zeppelin, Love Unlimited, Mantronics, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Ripperton, O'Jays, Odyssey, Patrice Rushden, a selection of Seventies funk and Jimi Hendrix - Ezy Ryder is the best driving song ever.
When was the last time you knowingly broke the law in a car?
Well I, like, break it every day, along with everyone else. But I'm playing a losing game with the DVLA, as I only have three points to last three years.
Who or what caused your worst crash?
I rolled my Fiat 600 into a ditch the other day.
How many laps into the Grand Prix before you nod off?
I've not watched any of them this year, but yes, I do tend to nod off. I'm a bigger fan of Le Mans.
Is there one car you'd like to drive before you die?
Bloody hell, there are lots of cars I'd like to drive, but Audi's Le Mans car is right up there.
Is there a car you are contractually obliged to plug?
It's no secret I have a great relationship with Audi. They make great cars and I like to drive them.
