I just looked on those german album charts again and now I'm really a bit surprised that Noiz and Von Hier An Blind were the most sold albums 2005, because the Söhne Mannheims and Wir Sind Helden are usually not so promoted by those stupid german teen magazines Bravo and Yam and how they're all called. Of course, Wir Sind Helden had the advantage of the second album. They flashed the nation with their first album Die Reklamation, and so they were all waiting for their second album and when it came out, (nearly) everybody bought it (I didn't!)...
Anyway, what did I want to say?...Oh yes, (just to repeat it again) Dynamite was badly promoted, that's all. Jamiroquai don't need to make another AFO to get high positions in the charts because at least the german teenagers buy everything if it's just hyped enough by the already mentioned Bravo and Yam (and Popcorn). I also think the world didn't buy AFO because it was good (I don't really think it's good), but just because it had so much promotion and I'm sure you all know that: When everyone says something is good, then you start to think "I have to like it too" although you actually don't really like that thing and then you start to look for the good sides of it. So it's hard to say but in the world of a german teenager the quality doesn't really count anymore, just if they're often enough on MTV and Viva and Viva Plus and of course in the Bravo and in the Yam (and again Popcorn).
Some of you might now ask themselves which kind of music the Bravo and the Yam (and also the Popcorn) like. It's easy to say: Mainstream. They know what german teenagers like: stupid easy listening mainstream pop and rock. The rock is often full of fake problems (read the lyrics of Tokio Hotel and you'll know what I mean) and the pop are stupid love ballads sung (not written!) by Sarah Connor. And FunkEducation, I don't think they like jazz funk. You can't win a flower-pot with a jazz funk album at the german teenagers.
Anyway: Why do you care about chart positions that much? Wouldn't it be better to keep Jamiroquai as our little secret and only tell it people who are worth it? Or do you wanna have fans around here who are also fan of Banaroo or another brainless band? |

The reason why Jamiroquai released the Dual Disc is to try to do better in the charts, since Dynamite went HORRIBLE!!!!!
Which reminds me to ask you all, are you really gonna buy that DD just 'cos it has a documentary and some vids??!!

I know I have probably missed the "meat" of this topic, but I think Dynamite places rather well in last year's sales charts. To answer your question Noe, I bought the Dynamite DD for several reasons, with the lessest one being for the videos/Documentary. It was a new format for a Jamiroquai release, to support the artist and for the audio enhanced LPCM audio version of Dynamite were the main reasons. Still, I consider the Dynamite era of Jamiroquai was more successful than the AFO era, which is a good thing. I just hope the future of Jamiroquai continues to be great, from a fan and band standpoint, and with less and less interference of a record label variety. I know I bitch on and on about Sony/BMG, but I try sometimes to turn a new leaf and support them too, but it is always trying to. Thanks for listening and Peace!

I support the band ALWAYS and FOREVER (not the label though) but I don't like to feel I'm being robbed, if you know what I mean.
The clearest example in my head now is those bands with a "Greatest Hits" every two years...This DD seemed to be, FOR ME, something similar to that situation I described before. In any case, I wonder why didn't they released Dynamite with all those extras THEN, as they're doing now with the DD. But I suppose that's a label decission (not the band's)

well, the dual disc was our official release. so that's why i bought it, except if you count the cd version (i think this was the european release right?) that came out before the official date (without time won't wait) for $18.99. which i bought because it was in july and ours wasn't released until september. i couldn't wait all those months. i didn't have access to download it at the time.
i bought another version 2 weeks later with time won't wait on it for a friend in mexico that couldn't find it there. it was before the dual disc was released here. that was like $24.99 or something. favor for a friend...no problem.
then, when the dual disc came out in the USA, i got it for $11.99 (if you get it on the day it's released it's wayyy cheaper. price goes up after the exact release date). i bought one for my best friend and one for me.
so, the dual disc was better for my pockets for sure with more content. all in all, i ended up with like 4 or so DYNAMITES. the one i bought, a promo copy from Giant Step (no dual disc, but with time won't wait), a promo copy from SONY (dual disc), and another copy from our tech guy at work who downloaded it for me as a present (same as Giant Step one) because he didn't know i had it already. i didn't mean to have so many. so if someone around me wanted one, i'd give it up. really..how many copies of one CD do you need? 
the point of this post is ummm..don't really know. but yeah, all those releases and versions was some BS. greedy ass sony. then again no one made me buy them....hahaha  i just added that mess up. craziness. |
