It's true that Jay signed the contract, but bear in mind that when he did it, he was young, had no business experience and was excited about the possibility of releasing a cd... He may have realised later on that the contract wasn't as good as he'd imagined. George Michael also left Sony and, just like Jay, was thrilled when it happened. He even called Sony FONY (= phoney) on one of his videos.
I don't think Sony is the devil, but towards the end of the contract, Sony has been behaving with great neglect. The promotion of Dyn and AFO in Brazil have been lousy. In fact, I don't know one single person here who's bought "Dynamite".
On a more positive note, SDISJ has been included - a little late, considering the Brazilian shows are this week - as part of the soundtrack of the 9 o'clock soap opera, Belíssima. You may laugh but soap operas soundtracks sell a lot, are usually very good and are very much like movies soundtracks here. Artists give an arm to have a song of theirs included on a soap opera soundtrack. A massive hit is guaranteed.
It seems Sony Brasil has finally woken up. People will be screaming when the Jmq play the first notes of SDISJ here... |
