Rio's show was simply fantastic... We clapped our hands and shouted "JK! JK!" several times during the show, an amazing vibe, people were really having a good time.

The interaction with the audience was also incredible, everybody clapping hands on Little L, everybody jumping on Deeper Underground... It was really amazing!

And according to Derrick's email to funkin.com, the band also had a good time.

Anyway, I think everyones blood boils in a Jamiroquai concert. Even those that go without knowing who they are, like in festivals.

True! I agree!!!! Very Happy
Only a dead man would keep still in a Jmq concert!

thanks for the review cesar, very nice
as for the odd thing you mention, cosmicmouse is right, jay is so perfeccionist with the sound, you can notice in ALL jami concerts, he speaks to a techinch man in his left, using some "hand codes". as you say, he does the bass, the guitar, the keys and say if he want up or down, also points to the speaker he want to change something on, and i notices some concrete hands position for some different speakers (as doing a T with his fingers to refer to the front one, etc)
sometimes (often heheh)he pisses about soundproblems with the techman i even seen him going to the place shouting so angry to the man and changing the sound by his own (in festimad 2002)
if you have the chance of seing any live video you will see tihs is so common, mor ein the first songs of the concerts

I'm glad to hear it!
The second and third "incidents" were about sound problems, I'm sure, and are perfectly normal.
I was just slightly worried about the first one, when he seemed to be complaining about Rob's playing, but I hope it meant nothing.

Yes, that is true.

I noticed a lot of 'hand language' during Buenos Aires too.

There's one in Verona, I think is during Little L... you can see him pissed off!

yes I noticed that in BS AS too.

In the Chicago 2005 ( audience ) dvd you can see Jay talking with Derrick and the calling the sound engineer or whoever is he and tells him what to do, all while singing or during the show, hehe. People who went to that gig told that the sound was very bad, and in fact, you can see Jay very angry with the bad sound.

I'm listening to the recordings of Space Cowboy and Cosmic Girl and I must say Paul is doing a brilliant job! Incredible bass playing. You can hear him so clearly...

REVIEW - Jmq's concert in Rio.
O GLOBO - 27/03/06 (Rio de Janeiro's main newspaper and one of Brazil's most important ones)

The translation may not be 100% brilliant, but I suppose you'll be able to understand what the critic said. Smile

Quote:
JAMIROQUAI TURN VENUE INTO LIVELY NIGHTCLUB.

IN ITS PERFORMANCE IN RIO, ENGLISH GROUP PLEASES WHILE MIXING OLD HITS AND SONGS FROM ITS LATEST ALBUM.

The insistent chorus for "Virtual Insanity", the band's most famous song, wasn't paid attention to. Nevertheless, Jamiroquai's show in Rio on Saturday didn't cease to please. Claro Hall became a great, pumping nightclub, livened up by the blend of the English group's old hits and new songs from its more recent album, "Dynamite".

From the London winter to the Rio heat, the band leader, Jay Kay, showed determination when entering the stage wearing a type of Peruvian coloured poncho and an adornment with shining rods on the head. With 40 minutes of delay, the show started at 23h20m with "Canned heat" (from the album "Synkronized"). The singer's look only resisted until the second song, the hit "Space cowboy", when Jay Kay got rid of the poncho, always complaining about the heat and drinking much water.

SHOW ISN'T BASED SOLELY ON "DYNAMITE".

In its third visit to the country - on Friday it performed in São Paulo - Jamiroquai proved that it's still capable of rocking the house, as it did in the height of the 90's. In the setlist, songs from the new album, "Dynamite" (title track), "Seven days In Sunny June" e "(Don't) Give hate a Chance". But, as the band had promised, the show wasn't based solely on "Dynamite". There were songs from every record, such as "Cosmic girl" and "You give me something".

In a little more than a two-hour show and performing 16 songs, Jamiroquai didn't let the public rest, thanks to its funk-disco formula. In the auditorium of more than six thousand people, the majority young, many people only stopped to dance to register the singer's mannerisms in digital cameras and mobile phones. In between the songs, Jay Kay seemed shy, limiting himself to thank the public in Portuguese and English, to crack some jokes about the heat and the tobacco consumed by the crowd and to pay homage to, with much accent, "Rio De Janeiro, Brazil ".

During most of the show, Jay Kay wore a green and yellow jacket, with the Brazilian flag on the chest. Drummer Derrick McKenzie, who functions as a central figure of the band, wore the Brazilian soccer team shirt. Who also stood out was keyboard player Matt Johnson, with introductions and solos that made the temperature rise in the venue.

THE HIT "USE THE FORCE" WAS ONE OF THE MOST CELEBRATED.

The vocalist used the whole stage in his evolutions, but also simulated choreographies motionless in front to the two fans that refreshed him during the presentation. The hit "Use The Force"was one of the most celebrated. Shortly afterwards, somebody threw a Brazilian flag on the stage. The singer tucked it in the pocket and went ahead.

After playing the 15th song of the night, "Alright", Jay Kay bid farewell with a "God bless you". The public, however, didn't move away. The chorus asked for the return of the band and the song "Virtual Insanity". The demand was paid attention to partially. Jamiroquai, in the encore, opted to close the night with "Deeper Underground", but didn't frustrate anyone, keeping the vibration until the last chords.

In its Latin tour, the band leaves now for Caracas, in Venezuela
