I'm not really sure about 'artistically acceptable', I think there's always a better word to use than 'fuck' when it comes to writing creatively, even though I swear all the time in my everyday speech! But it's not as jarring in that song as, for instance, the live version of The Kids, where it just doesn't fit. And it's not gratuitous.

I dislike use of words like this too, but in JAS it fits, it's realism. Otherwise I abhorr public usage. It's like ridiculous sex scenes in what could be good film, it prevents a more general and broader audience from really enjoying the film when suddenly someone's particulars are unwantingly thrust in your face.
even though I swear all the time in my everyday speech!
I don't use any bad language in every day use, but everything has it's time and place . . .

but the bottom line is as you so eloquently put it, is . . .
it's not gratuitous.
I suppose it depends what theme of song were talking about really........i mean songs such as too young to die and emergency on planet earth will always have more power than some 'love song' for example.

But for me........my choices would include......Butterfly, Picture Of MyLife and 2001 just to name a few

Yes, so true Mr. Mooon.

Deesha and I had a very emotional conversation today, about life changing/destroying issues, and the song that we agreed encapsulated the key to survival and adaptation was UTF - so liberating, powerful, and inspiring !!!

Maybe UTF is the truest of all love songs, do you remember the wise words of Mr. George Benson's classic 'The Greatest Love of All' ???

BTW - Thank you for the prompts Mr. Mooon.

Pfffffff... George Benson!

CHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Sorry. Ahem.

'Politics' songs and 'love' songs (though they don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive) aim at different things. Whilst a song like TYTD deals with 'bigger issues' which mean more and are more important on a global level, something like, say, 'Half The Man' works on a very different - more PERSONAL level, so I wouldn't necessarily say a politics song is automatically more powerful.

Though of course, I'm brought back, once again, to JAS - a deeply personal, autobiographical song, which at the same time charts the ills of modern society and the dangers of 'this life that we live in'.

Hello Jamirotalkers,

We've had all kind of topics about Jamiroquai's music. But I think there isn't a topic about the lyrics of the band, some of them which are very powerful.

So, the question is, WHICH DO YOU THINK ARE THE BEST LYRICS FROM JAMIROQUAI??

If I had to choose, I'm between a lot (Manifest Destiny, Scam, etc etc etc). But this is my vote:

Jamiroquai
'Revolution 1993'

Yes you've got to stand up, stay strong, start moving in the right direction,
Don't wait too long, for people promising divine intervention
Nineteen nine three, now I'm taking matters into my own hands
So fast, I can't see
A revolution is the only way we can change, change, change
I wanna fight the power!

Well it's hard times, white lines, kids of nine getting down with gun crime
War zones, no homes, ain't it the time we gave the dog a bone
Say brothers, sisters, get up and put yourself in the picture
This time you know a revolution is the only way we can change, change, change
I want to fight the power!

Question, answer, shake your hand and smile for the camera
But it's no good you should spend time in your neighbourhood
Where black kids, white kids
Now you're working overtime to be a crack kid
No job, no cash,
A revolution is the only way we can change, change, change
I wanna fight the power!

Still we don't seem to understand we need a Revolution,
Everubody wants a Revolution

Now who is this man, I'm having trouble knowing where I'm coming from
Pre-conceptions, it's eternal human infection
One chance, learn how you're gonna change the habit of a lifetime my soul, concerned,
That Revolution is the only way that we can change, change, change
I wanna fight the power!

Higher, higher, now we're gonna learn how to fight the power
Sunshine, new day, I only know how to go to the right way
Faster, stronger I help my brother and my soul lives longer
Blinded I can't see
A Revolution is the only way that we can change, change, change
I wanna fight the power!

No doubt in time, everything is sweet sunshine but in the
Meantime, mankind is having trouble where to draw the line
We still don't, respect, and yet I thought we had intellect
Sometimes I think the music is the only hope we have for Revolution

Still we don't seem to understand we need a Revolution
Everybody needs a Revolution!
