Confirmation of what I said further up this post. I talked to Trafford on Saturday night and he told me... the Brand New Heavies' new album is NOT going to be released in the UK. It's for the US (and probably Japan) only.

You see, Deesh? They're absolutely fucking dreadfully promoted here.

Thanks for the download link though Razz

i was just sitting here at work listening to the giant step jukebox and checking out the tracks from DJ Spinna' new album..and this song comes on and i'm amazed at the vibe of it. i play it twice and then go to look and see who it is and it's n'dea...i don't know how i didn't make the connection the first time i listened to it. but i love, love, this track now...

it's called 'where's your love'

just go here: http://www.giantstep.net/releases/1025

and you will see the track listed.

i always dug dj spinna, but this took it to another level of respect. dope track!

No, it's not being released here. It was recorded in NY, and they've got a different label in the States than over here. Their UK label is DREADFUL. Apparently (again, I've been told this by my DJ friend) about 95% of the stuff they make never even gets heard in the English-speaking world, such is their popularity in Japan! And the majority of the rest gets put out in the States but not over here.

Still, at least we're not in some country where soul and funk is totally unavailable. That really WOULD be hell.

Brand New Heavies

Dance/R&B

Peaches and Herb were right: Reuniting does feel good. After scoring success with London acid jazz group Brand New Heavies in the early '90s with hits "Never Stop" and "Dream on Dreamer," N'Dea Davenport left to pursue solo endeavors. And while she never matched the fame of BNH—some scattered solo dance hits—the band wasn't exactly having luck with her replacements. Now back together on their original label, BNH released a fresh album, Get Used To It (Delicious Vinyl), this summer. It'll be a challenge reconnecting with their audience and competing in an era where computer-generated sounds are drowning out live instrumentation. Regardless, fans still respect their R&B-inspired funk and modern jazz, and their contribution to neo-soul before it was called neo-soul. Gotta give credit where it's due.

Fri., July 7, 9 p.m., $25, with Van Hunt, The TLA, 334 South St., 215-922-1011, www.thetla.com.

got your copy sam. Wink

and you'll really damn me to hell now..

i interviewed them (well, n'dea only because the others were "busy") via phone. i have to do a concert review and write up the interview, so i'll post them once i'm done. i did ask her about the european release though and why the heavy concentration on the American market when they have fans in Europe. she said 'it's strategic' among other things...more on that later. she was mad cool and really laid back.

and the concert was really dope. i was in front of andrew. i took lots of pictures for Giant Step, so I'll send you that link too. honestly, the brass section shined the most.

and the opener was van hunt - so damn talented. he had a female on bass that was just woah!!! so good!

i wanted to look for the BNH after to sign your copy, but babysitting prevailed Rolling Eyes
