Get ready German fellows! Tomorrow (for me, and today for you) you'll realise how is it to play against one of the best teams in this WC. We're like the Phoenix...reborn from the ashes!!! BEWARE OF US!

Sam

Off-offtopic here a bit, sorry Smile

Yeah, these Irish guys are pretty tough - at the end of every season we play a competition of 'International Rules' football with them which is a hybrid of our two games (to make it kinda fair for both teams I guess - they're very similar codes anyway). Although Sam, I'm not sure they have tackling like we do - I always feel guilty when one of the Irish guys gets flattened coz they're not expecting it!

Anyway, just to show you all that Aussie Rules is not all violence, I found this cheesy clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GClrwzgGxAM

I may be a bit biased here, but I'm yet to find another sport with this much action and athleticism.
Ok, I'll shut up now Wink

Back on-offtopic:
I'm no soccer expert, so maybe someone can tell me - is it usual for the referees to have such a bearing on the outcome of these matches? I find it torturous that two teams can play their guts out, only to have the result decided by a single (quite possibly dubious) decision from the ref. in the dying seconds (yeah, I'm referring to the Italy/Australia game Wink).
Out here, we say the best games are when you don't notice the umpire is out there. It seems the referees are getting talked about alot in this World Cup.

Germany advance to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ semi-finals after triumphing 4-2 over Argentina in a penalty shoot-out following a tight, tense match in Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Friday, 30 July 2006 that had ended locked at 1-1.
It proved impossible to separate these sides during normal time, with 120 minutes only able to conjure up a couple of goals, Miroslav Klose’s 80th-minute equaliser cancelling out a 49th-minute opening goal from Roberto Ayala.

That left the match to be settled by penalties, and it was Jens Lehmann who proved the hosts’ hero, saving from both Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso, while Oliver Neuville, Michael Ballack, Lukas Podolski and Tim Borowski all successfully dispatched their spot kicks past Argentina’s substitute goalkeeper Leo Franco.

Interesting... I never knew Cafu was such a greedy bugger. I did see -that 'surely-he's-going-to-cross-it-to-Dinho-no-what's-he-doing-the-stupid-bastard' moment yesterday, and I must say, if RONALDINHO got angry with him (which was plain to see), then Cafu really must be a twat. I get the impression Dinho would probably smile and have a joke with you if you told him you were a serial rapist, so Cafu really must be bad.

I have to tell you that no one knew that. We only got to see Cafu's ''other side'' when he was told to sit on the reserve bench against Japan. He didn't like it at all - not because he wanted to help Brazil, but because he wanted to break his personal record. That sucks!

Quote:

I was thinking the same the other day. It would be a great shame for the World Cup, because Ronie's the only player capable of doing something truly original with a football any more. A few younger players might reach the level of greatness in a few years' time - Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Lio Messi, perhaps Sergio Aguero if Atletico treat him well (good God, Argentina's team will be terrifying at the next World Cup) - but for Dinho to not leave his stamp on the World Cup whilst at the peak of his powers, simply because of a coach who doesn't know what to do with him, would be a shame. Managers are given too much power and credit for what goes on in the game today. Give it back to the players.

There's an article on Brazil's main internet provider today saying that never before has a Number 10 player (which here has God-like status) spent 4 matches without scoring for Brazil. That's precisely what's happening to Ronaldinho and I'd be surprised if, by the end of the tournament, he'd scored a lot. He's playing in a position with which he's not familiar, so it'll take him sometime to get used to it - and it may be too late.

Parreira has pretty much said Team 1 will play against France tomorrow. Oh Lord... Once again, we'll be spending the entire 90 min. with our hearts skipping a beat. It shouldn't be like that! Ronaldo & Ronaldinho on the attack, Juninho in the middle. Is this so hard for Parreira to do? Every sports commentator in Brazil is thrashing him, Cafu, RCarlos and Emerson. They'll be lynched if we fail against anyone because of poor playing.
