Akimbo
If you haven't heard AKIMBO, I highly recommend it. This Acid Jazz band has released one album, On Top, and I hope they make more. The band features Simon Bartholomew from the Brand New Heavies, but more importantly, Nick Van Gelder (from EOPE, if you didn't know that). The music is groovy, traditional acid jazz, with great brass and the like. They have a singer who does a couple numbers, too. If you haven't heard them, check it out.

You can download a few songs at:

Cheers, and happy listening!

I couldn't find it in any store.....I had to get it from Amazon.com

Hope you don't have to resort to internet shopping. I had to wait for it to come in the mail!

Cheers.

If you're going to check out Acid Jazz, you have to hear the Brand New Heavies. I got a compilation album, BEST OF THE ACID JAZZ YEARS, and I recently picked up their third album: BROTHER SISTER. Their guitarist is, as I mentioned before, Simon Bartholomew, and the woman that sings on most tracks is named N'Dea Davenport. She actually has done quite a bit of singing on the Acid Jazz scene, and I can see why. Her voice is incredible. Anyway, many of you but not all of you know that Jamiroquai's music isn't completely unique (sorry, but it's true). The early stuff is acid jazz, and if you like it, there's a lot more out there.

Cheers.

I love internet radio! I get introduced to so many other bands, and I thought you should know (although I don't really think anybody looks at this post). I recommend:

James Taylor Quartet
Groove Collective
Young Disciples
Jazzanova

some of this stuff gets strange sometimes, but most of it is really chill. I think everybody should check it out, because if you're like me, only five albums of the best music on earth isn't enough. I have to find stuff like it, at least until Jamiroquai releases another album.

once I didn't think it could be possible, by I've been in a concert on an israeli jazz/funk band, called machumara (I didn't know so many people here dig this genere).
although you won't understand a word of their lyrics (unless you speak hebrew), I recommend you to listen to 3 downloadeble songs of them I found:

Bardugo

Deep Inside

Highway of Love

I have "on top", and yes, akimbo sounds really good. Maybe next week I will upload it.
I also like Vinia Mojica's voice, she sings on some alliance ethnik's and groove collective's tracks.

Hi!

I was watching all the topics here in Offtopic and I read Akimbo....wow. Hehe, Abou gave me "On Top" on our last meeting and yes, they sound pretty cool. I also have "Trunk Funk: The Best Of The Brand New Heavies" and "Brother Sister", that Freddie HG mentioned above. Two great albums, specially the track BNH on the Trunk Funk..., I love it. If you haven't heard anything of this and you like the acid jazz style from the first 2 JMQ albums I recommend them a lot. Then you tell me Wink

PS: If you liked Brand New Heavies, the album Epiphany: Best Of of Chaka Khan has that vibe.

I can't believe this topic got revived! But I'm so glad...

You also need to check out GREYBOY ALLSTARS... really tight acid jazz (although, they call it Boogaloo).

I have to add my two cents on one matter though... I have to ask that people not upload the music of struggling artists to the internet for free download, because it depletes their sales... I appreciate the generosity, but I hope these bands will keep producing, and they need funds for that.

Cheers!
