I still haven't figured out how to use the quote feature right... any way, Meike, I bought this great gadget that I am sure you can find at any toy store or even at the pharmacy, its a battery opperated bubble blower. It's really small and the package says it makes a ton of bubbles I'll bring it along. I don't know if it makes bubbles that will make it all the way to the stage though. I guess we'll find out on Sunday!

I like Jan's idea for Saturday as mentioned by Deesh, but Rom, yours sounds cool too... I'll only say one thing: arrange to meet somewhere SPECIFIC. Don't just say 'Hyde Park', because it's absolutely enormous - it takes easily half an hour to walk from one end to the other. My suggestion (you don't have to take it) would be to meet at the bit called 'Hyde Park Corner'. That's the south-eastern-most corner, near Kensington and just at the back of Buckingham Palace. There are some fancy gates and some trees to duck under in case it does start raining. You'll also find that most of the signposts to the Park point to Hyde Park Corner, and it'll be marked on most maps as a separate bit, so you won't have to look at a huge expanse of green and think 'right... now which corner's the right one?'
I'm about to PM a couple of people with my mobile number. Rom - I may be there myself on Saturday, but I might not be, because going to Hyde Park would mean getting right across London and then back again in the afternoon (from Victoria coach station to Greenwich and then back to HPC), so if I don't see you all then I'll no doubt bump into some of you on Sunday - have a blast!
One other thing, to those who aren't so hot with the... erm... heat - British pubs will give you FREE drinking water if you ask politely (it's England, remember your pleases and thankyous!). I'm going to be taking a big bottle around with me and when I run out, running into the nearest pub or bar to get them to refill it. Just make sure you ask for tapwater, or they may try and sell you a bottle of mineral water.
I only mention that because I know not every country's pubs and bars do that, so it could be useful to know.
Although as I write (just before 11pm), it's just starting to spot with rain outside... that storm might be on its way!

Oh and I forgot to add - Hyde Park Corner's also dead easy on the Tube because there's a station actually CALLED Hyde Park Corner, which will take you up just on the other side of the road from it. It's on the Piccadilly Line (dark blue on the Tube maps).
Bond Street is also fairly easily reachable from there - one stop north on the Jubilee Line (grey on the map) from Green Park (which itself is only one stop east, or a rather short walk, from Hyde Park Corner). So - who's up for meeting at Hyde Park Corner first and then making our way up to Bond Street? Or we could just do the two separate meetings thing...

Hmm... it's stopped here as well now. But it's very blowy outside and was getting more overcast earlier on... let's hope it doesn't blow over too soon. If it rains tonight, tomorrow or Friday, great. But the last thing we want is for a storm to hit London on Saturday night and turn Victoria Park into a mudpit! Of course this being an English festival, that's what's going to happen...

OH, Either I was in my dreams, or I don't see very well anymore. I didn't read the whole 31st page.
Deesh and Jan I'm really sorry to not talk about your meeting idea
So I must change what I've said. I think Jan's suggestion is a good idea, and it's so cool she booked for the Astor
So now we have the choice.
Sam you're right. Hyde Park is so big, but I'm not an organizer and I really don't like to plan anything. In fact I just want to know you better before having a very good time with you and that's why I post this meet idea. And I hope you think the same
So Hyde Park Corner sounds good too. There are pubs too. I know nothing about London, so maybe we can follow Jan and Deesh's idea.
And if Bond street and Hyde Park are close, maybe we can chill out after the "aperitif" |
