Here's an article I found today about JK For Hugo (it was also posted by OldFunker as well)...
The Boss
Interview by James Collard
Singer Jay Kay was always known for his style – now, with his clothing line, you can have a piece of the action
In a just world, we’d all have our own clothing line. Nothing huge, mind, not a whole collection. Just a small, finely curated range of clothes that suit us, reflect our lifestyle and, while we’re at it, carry our name in an understated way, with a subtle logo or two on a button or in the lining. Come the revolution, we just might. But in the meantime, most of us will probably have to make do with someone else’s clothing line. In which case, look no further than “JK for HUGO”, a small-but-perfectly-formed 20-piece collection designed by Jay Kay, the small-but-rather-delectably-formed lead singer of Jamiroquai. HUGO, you may recall, is the younger, more edgy collection from Hugo Boss: a hip little sidekick, if you like, to the main line’s suited and booted big brother. And Jay Kay is the man whose songwriting gifts and airy vocals made tracks like Space Cowboy, Cosmic Girl and Virtual Insanity the soundtrack to parties, chill-outs and singalongs in cars everywhere from the Old Kent Road to Sunset Boulevard.
So we know he can sing. We know he can dance: witness the superb Travelling Without Moving video from 1997, in which Jay tripped the light fantastic, a Fred Astaire for the house generation. And we know he can sell records, with six multi-platinum albums under his belt, plus five MTV awards, a Grammy and an Ivor Novello. So what’s with the fashion thing?
“Of course I enjoy clothes,” the singer explains, “and I’ve always liked the idea of designing clothes. But I didn’t want to do it unless I could really get involved.” Not the nitty-gritty, not very rock’n’roll-y business of cutting and sewing, of course, but the bigger picture stuff of shape, fabric and colour. The singer enjoyed the process of experimenting, working closely with design director Volker Kächele and his team. “What’s great about working with HUGO is the way you can suggest something, just to try it out, then this piece of clothing comes back.” And Jay Kay even had a thing to teach ’em about HUGO. “I love vintage,” he explains, “so I brought a load of stuff in for inspiration – including a really lovely HUGO jacket from a few years ago, which they didn’t recognise.”
Throughout the whole process, Jay, who has no pretensions to being a Hedi Slimane or a Tom Ford, very sensibly focused on “what would suit me”, which means slimline shirts, some well-cut trousers and a jacket he’s especially proud of. “It’s purple with white piping and I love it.” Alongside the purple, expect slates, greys and subtle greens, “although we’re going to play around with colours for the next season”, and some materials like suede and perforated leather that signal Jay’s love of great cars and high-octane lifestyle. There’s also a bag “which everyone seems to really like – it’s got room for your iPod and your charger and a lot more besides”.
The man himself, though, is opting out of the fast lane for a while (“there’s no point driving fast cars any more, as I keep on getting nicked!”) and looking forward to some downtime. As we speak he’s been rehearsing for a few small gigs playing his new album, High Times: Singles 1992-2006, essentially his greatest hits (thus far) plus two new tracks, Runaway and Radio. It’s a good time to pause and look at what he’s achieved – and what he wants to do next. The good news is that in the long term, that means more music and a tour, around about this time next year. But in the meantime, our 37-year-old cosmic boy plans to spend time completing his helicopter pilot exams, “maybe going somewhere warm with a beach – I can’t remember the last time I was on a beach”, and heading up to his holiday place in Perthshire (“basically a cottage with a barn attached – it’s great for recording”) to write songs. Which sounds like nice work if you can get it.

in the new FHM mag (the DUTCH version) is a small piece on JK for HUGO.
pictured are the leather bag and the leather jacket and they also listed prices for them.
Leather bag € 839,-
Leather jacket € 1399,-
no idea if those are the Dutch prices or international but now you have an idea of how large the wallet must be. |

I knew this stuff wouldn't exactly come for free... but that's a bit too steep innit? Between 50-100% more than I had expected.
For example, a regular leather bomber jacket from Hugo costs less than half of what the JK leather jacket will cost. _________________ Old school forever! |
