Well I think the main problem is that people still think that Jamiroquai is going back to their old routines. There not and get used to this style.Dont get me wrong because I loved the acid jazz music. But Jamiroquai hasn't done that in over 10 years. Crying or Very sad

I only love it because it tells me that they wanted a song to be rushed like the title.Nothing more to say but I dont like it.I love it.I listen to it everyday and no matter if it is jazz or hard rock,if it is coming from Jamiroquai I love it.

Thanks Smile Smile Smile I also couldn't decide which word it should be - either snapping or stabbing - they sounded so similar - but I thought it was 'snapping at my heels' as it's an saying that I've heard before Smile

I hear "snapping" too Samantha...

I listen to it most of the day and I still hear 'snapping' as well Smile Smile Smile

Well I'm not gonna read all 22 pages of this thread (!) but I think the song sounds a lot like a Synkronized track. I love it! The violins, the intro and beat, amazing!! And when that first line "Can you dig it?" and the guitar kick in, it's exciting Very Happy

I can't wait to see the video!

I agree, I didn't like it at first. But as with any song on Dynamite it just grew on me.

IMO, great funky track. I only wish there were more songs being released (other than Radio) for High Times!

Just listened to the track a few times and watched the video for the first time....

I LOVE IT! An awesome return for the band...I think the current lineup has matured and gelled in a fantastic way....the strings in this are just magic...a real throwback to the old days...Turner's bass is top notch and TBH I believe he's just as good (if not technically better) than Zender... The song just has a spark, an attitude, that little something special that was maybe lacking with Dynamite... This really makes me look forward to the future Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery Happy And I love the videoclip - for the above reasons Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery Happy

Yes. I really enjoy the guitar in this track. And I agree, the song sounds like a 3rd single taken from 'Synkronized'.

Well... we don't know that for sure now do we? Some of us hope they will though.

Anything can happen, we have no idea what happens in the future. But the decision is not yours to make, nor mine. It's all up to Jay at the end of the day.

herored is right...the band won't go in reverse. bands just don't do that. it's called evolution. show me a single band that has ever done it - that is, change their musical style over a period of ten years, and then suddenly start making music the same way they did at the beginning Razz

the thing to remember is that the nature of the music and lyrics that jay writes is entirely dependednt upon his life and the other band members at the time...

It's the same way that everybody's tastes, interests and priorities change as we age - when you are young, you have a certain set of likes/dislikes/opinions, but they change as you age. jay as a young street kid is very different from jay as the 37 year old superstar millionare. you can't expect him to be feeling and thinking the same things.

the same principle applies to the music - what was created at the time was a product of jay's attitude and the specific combination of band members. now, jay and derek are the only remainig members. it's only natural that the music is different - it would suck it they tried to emulate the original 'sound'.

bands die if they don't change. jamiroquai is no different.

Presuming you mean ORIGINAL members, Jay is in fact the only one left. Derrick didn't join the band until the recording of ROTSC was already underway.

Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough. And yes, I know derrick joined later - I just refer in general to the 'early years' band that produced that old sound.

Yes. that's true. As Eddi veder said "it's evolution baby'

Anyway it could be very interesting that they make some acid jazz songs mixed with all this new funky and very guitaristic new and beautiful sound

Sometimes musicians experiment with their music and change direction for X years/albums. Sometimes they get lost doing this. And while trying to navigate in the musical landscapes they find their way back to the original style. When they're finally "home" again they start feeling good about themselves and their music once again. It happens, trust me.

I'm not going to give you a single band. I'm going to name several off the top of my head:

Kiss : Rock - Disco - Rock Opera - 80's Hair Metal - Rock
Kreator : Thrash Metal - Industrial - Thrash Metal
Helloween : Speed/Power Metal - Heavy Metal - Speed/Power Metal
Stratovarius : Speed/Power/Neo-Classical Metal - Progressive Metal - Speed/Power/Neo-Classical Metal
Loudness : Heavy Metal - Grunge(-ish) - Heavy Metal
Alex Skolnick (Testament guitarist) : Thrash Metal - Jazz/Bebop - Thrash Metal

I can't come up with anything outside the "metal genre" right now. But allow me to think a while and I probably will. Bands/artists going back to their roots actually do happen you know... perhaps not so often, but it does. It seems like in the metal world it happens an awful lot though. Wink
