Doing mixes myself...
Right, basically I'm a complete novice at this, but I'ld love to give it a go. Obviously some of the JMQ remixes have inspired me, and I'ld love to try one myself. All I've been able to do so far is arrange JMQ songs for barbershop and Wind Band using Sibelius and my classical training...
Bascially, what equipment/software do I need to do this??
Please give me some guidance!! It would be much appreciated and I'll owe you a pint!
Cheers!! |

ReCycle... everyone using samples need this. Never have to worry about bpm and time codes again... and slicing samples is like cutting butter with a heated knife... heaven!
You would most definitely find Reason both fun to use and useful too. Instant-box-o-fun and very powerful once you start peeling the onion.
Ableton Live! is another application you'd have fun with.
NI Traktor DJ Studio could be useful... at least fun to fiddle with.
You should get a copy of ProTools Free (if you're on a PC that is) if it's still available for download. It's a limited version of ProTools which allows you to "feel" the experience without investing in expensive hardware. I use ProTools on Mac so despite the limitations in PT Free I can recommend it to get started... as it is.... well free!
I'm also using ReCycle and Reason... I used to play around with Live! as well as it was included with my Digidesign hardware. I've tried Traktor, but it wasn't my cuppa tea... too much of a toy for my taste... it was fun for a while though.
I bet you can get demo versions of these applications. _________________ Old school forever! |
