Hello Jamirotalkers,
I'm happy to announce that after 4 looooong years, I have internet at home
So, I need to protect my PC now, so I need advice on what should I download. Anti spywares, something that cleans all the cookies, etc

Hi Dyego,
I don't know what kind of connexion you're running... I know broadband isn't as widespread in Argentina as it is here in the UK (I know at least one person in Argentina still connects to the internet on a phoneline, which proves that point!). But I'd recommend the following:
CCleaner is a more powerful version of the 'Disk cleanup' utility in Windows.
AdAwareSE is very good for basic anti-adware, popups, spyware etc. (but not a full anti virus program, obviously).
Both are free - a quick search on Google should sort you out. Otherwise they can be got from www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads.

Also, if you want anti-virus you don't want to pay for, I've just found and installed AVG on my family's PC. I've been told it's better than Norton Anti Virus, and it's also free (including free updates). I won't be putting it onto my own PC until my Norton subscription runs out in December, but my brother's found it fine to use, very easy, updates itself etc. etc...
It can be got from http://www.grisoft.com/doc/products-avg-anti-virus-free-edition/lng/us/tpl/tpl01. There should also be a link on that site somewhere to the free version of AVG Anti Spyware, which is a separate program to the A-V. It's also free, so you should get both.
If you've got a slower connexion I can help you out with downloading the installation packs, get in touch with me by PM or MSN.

What a coincidence! I made that post after I installed the AVG and the Ad Aware, both recommended by two different friends!
I got both AVG, the anti virus, and the anti spyware. I think is the same site where I found them.
Thanks a lot Sam. My connection is 655 KB, pretty fast, and after I installed both, everything's working great so far

What you definately need is a good firewall, don't use Windows' standard firewall it only works half-ish. I run a "McAfee Desktop Firewall", it's not the latest software but hey, it works great. You don't notice it's running unless it really needs your attention. And it's light on the resources as well (memory consumption).
For antivirus, people have given you links already. All I want to say is DO NOT use the consumer versions of Norton. I do use Norton antivirus software myself but it's a special version for large corporations, which basically means it's no fancy software with 1000 options you dont need. So it's also light on resources. Might be something to look at. Of course you 'officially' can't buy this.... |

Hmmm... the words of a man who clearly hasn't been to Buenos Aires!
I need to get a tune-up program as well, I've tried a couple in the last week because my PC's started slowing down on startup, but they both did stuff I didn't want them to do - lucky the first one created a restore point for me on installation or I'd be a bit stuck now! So thanks for those recommendations, Gonza.
