With all of this talk...
...about JK and the band leaving Sony BMG after the Greatest Hits release-
How much money does Sony/BMG contribute to tour costs and promotion for the band? If Sony was pumping a lot of $$$ into the funding of their tours-
Maybe Jamiroquai won't tour as much... They are some road warriors, but if it gets too expensive... _________________ Wouldn't 'ya like... To walk the sunny avenues of life? |

I'd have thought the label pay for the tour. That's how it normally works, isn't it? They're getting the vast, vast, VAST majority of the money for record sales, after all, so it's in their interest to make sure the promotion for each album (whether it's singles, posters, or gigs) is handled properly. It's far more in Sony's interests to sort out and pay for a tour than it is in Jay's.
Besides which Jay 'only' has around £15 - £20 million in the bank. I very much doubt that's anywhere near enough to cover as many epic world tours as Jami have done, as well as keeping him in the lifestyle to which he's become accustomed.
With a new label, if it's a small one, I'd expect a bit of a drop-off in gigs outside Europe initially, and possibly some smaller venues (I know the ones they played in Stateside were tiny but in the UK they play 20,000+ arenas) but then we don't know who he (or the band?) will be signing with yet...

It's actually quite the opposite. Most musicians make little or no money on the records at all. Since tickets are very expensive for Jami concerts, the band makes a killing off of live shows. And the only thing they really needed Sony for was just some capital to get there music off the ground. Now since they have a name for themselves, they can go to whoever they want to distribute future records or have anyone (including themselves) manage the live stuff. Honestly, I don't think we'll see a big change in the group, just what personal decisions they want to make themselves. |

Totally agree.
Think about which company (for examle cell phones, or Sodas, etc) wont want to sponsor jmqi....... I think that the "trademarks" or sponsors put the money for the gig's.....the artist put the price for play and that's all. _________________ Jamiro - ROCKS!! - |

Yes, musicians nowadays make more money with the concerts. But don't forget they are an international band, they are known, they will surely get some sponsors, someone who will pay the costs of a tour.
Or perhaps Jay gets a very good offer from other company that really wants them and will let them do what they want. Who knows. We'll see.

Adidas, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Hugo Boss, Breil etc etc... I don't know what kind of dog food Jay is giving his dogs... but... Iams? It's been said that Jay likes Coca Cola as well. Komodo? If you remember Orenda (clothing, not the record label) you remember Joe Komodo. I got an email from him and he said that he wanted to get in touch with Jay again... possibly for business.
I mean, there are many companies that could be involved... theoretically speaking that is.
I'd prefer the band to be "labelless" though. Have their own label (Orenda), sell online (downloads and records as well as merchandise), work out a distribution deal with someone to have records in the record shops, hire a good PR agency to promote albums when they're about to be released etc. If they're on their own they have total freedom and can choose to release/sell whatever they want... including live material.
If they play their cards well it will be a great success. _________________ Old school forever! |

A good tour promotion company would invest in live shows - they get a nice return, the bands gets paid well... _________________

That's a great insight on it all about the sponsors - I'm in agreement with that. I'm sure there are many companies that will front Jamiroquai the money for tour. I'm not so much sure of those bigger ones, and I think that they might have more luck with the technological world like phones, computers, etc...to sponsor them.
Great post Pete. Claudia and I have already schemed up a plan to afford Jamiroquai to come back to NYC..hahaha _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Apple! Of course...
They could have one of those Apple Switch movies with a frustrated Jay in the studio trying to save a song when his "no name PC" give him the blue screen of death. Then fast forward... a happy Jay who just switched to a Mac and not having to worry about computer failure while recording a new hit. Why not the FJLIS nerd Jay at the PC and then an über slick Hugo Boss Jay or a relaxed street smart Adidas Jay at the Mac.

Oh, and Digidesign... since they're using ProTools nowadays. _________________ Old school forever! |
