No worries - I speak English and I still have issues communicating things Razz

Jonas - that is a great post! I agree with what you are saying and using that fish analogy really helped me digest (no pun intended) what you are saying. We have a program here where all the local food is marked with a little sign by it that says PA LOCAL - which means it is from our area. It's great. We also have lots of local farms that come into the city with their fresh food. I live in a big Amish state and the Amish come into the city every morning to sell their eggs, meat, etc. It tastes so good.

I must make an effort to make it to that market more. Wink

This are the issues I like good Laughing

I like the idea of having a dedicate section of the forum where we can discuss this kinds of issues.
I also believe that what attacted me to Jamiroquai was surely the music but "also" a lot the message and specially the message in EOPE.
We discussed a bit on here about that, is a off topic tread, most about vegetarian and I had great tips on how to buy product "not leader" with a list of sites to contact and was really nice to learn so many new things and share with other people.
I totally agree also 'cause I believe that to do something everyone of us should start in his own life ( caring the procuts he buys, recycling, getting informed etc..); I have a remeber of Jay saying somewhere he stopped also 'cause he is just one compared to multinationals with billions and billions, well luckily that didn't effect me at all and I keep by my own Laughing
( do I remeber correctly??)

With the Italian community we are organized a little project, called Project Starchild, that basically collect different people's money, ideas and suggestions and will destinate thoose money to one or few associations we choose.
Propably we'll decide and do it for chirstmas (is a good period Wink ).

Maybe we can organize something similar in here, at least we start Very Happy

what do u think?

Ok, here's some easy practical stuff I've been doing over the years:

Started a veggie/herb garden: Right now I'm growing broccolli, lettuce, silverbeet, snow peas, beans, tomatos, spring onions, potatoes, fennel, thyme, rosemary, chives, mint, apples and peaches.

Started composting: all kitchen scraps, grass clippings, etc... (makes good soil for the veggies!)

Bought a hand mower for the grass (motor-mowers pollute bigtime man!)

Paper/plastic gets recycled seperately from all the green waste...

yeah, off course having your own veggies is the best you can ask, but sadly lot of us living in the "city" don't have space but in a little balcony (where i have grown tomatoes, peppers, and aormatic herbs appart from cannabis).
recycling is just obligatory in my view, here this vision is quite spreaded and i'm glad about peoples act with this in gewneral, here around. (although then, governs don't manage very well the other part of the recycling and so much times they re-miz what we have separated...other thing we have to fight)

about what person against all the multinationals, i'm agree, we are just a bunch of people against this going killer consumism, but i don't think stoping each work should be done, in my opinion, each one need to do the right thing and fight for changing the way going on power (as multinationals)

the occidental, consumist and capitalist way wich is imperating in this world needs to be fight to have a real response from the nature. if not, theres no way "to stop it going on".

Here's an alternative slant...

I'm not saying which is right & which is wrong but it's food for thought...

From the end of the article & I think this comment really kicks home...

Yeah, it's sometimes hard to do a whole lot more than discuss the big things without weight to back it up...

I just heard on the radio that Rupert Murdoch's starting to push (or at least recognise) the whole climate change deal, which sounds like it could be promising.

I also heard Richard Branson's keen on developing a new renewable aviation fuel based on ethanol from sugarcane. That can't be a bad thing either.

With people like this who have influence and access to the big $$ onboard, it's at least a good sign. We just gotta hope they come through with the goods, and inspire others to do likewise.

word.

I am going to that market today to talk to the Amish. I want to learn more about their farming techniques and if it sounds correct, I want to do a class trip there with my students. I think educating the youth about these things is a good tool also. I'll start with just the food portion, since I'm learning about it all myself Wink

GONE RAW WEBSITE
I did my first grocery shopping with organic, natural and local foods on Tuesday - made a great salad! Anyway...I thought some of you might enjoy this new website that was recommended from my RopeADope friends:

www.goneraw.com

They've been up for about a week or so - here's an excerpt from their front page:

Welcome to Gone Raw!
Gone Raw is a social recipe sharing website to help people find, compare, and enjoy raw food recipes from around the world.

Why raw foods? A raw, living-foods diet focuses on uncooked, unheated, unprocessed and organic foods. Raw and living food contain valuable living enzymes that assist in digestion and assorption of food.

***

Although I know most of you eat heated and cooked food - Perhaps this is a great place to network, swap idea and recipes in general.

Enjoy, Deesh
