Why don't Bands release instrumentals any more?
Thank you whoever obtained those Dynamite instrumentals. I recommend anyone to have a listen (jamirohub). You get to hear just HOW MUCH work goes into each song - there's so many layers of music that enhance the song but you don't totally appreciate when the vocals are on top. Sometimes, you do not like the vocals much, and the instrumental version is preferred (not with Jamiroquai of course...)
I love instrumentals to songs, and Jamiroquai used to put them on singles, but not since maybe the 2nd Album. Now the singles have lots of dance remix versions, which I never like.
If a Dynamite instrumental CD was out, I would have bought it - so would many fans I think.
Why don't Bands release instrumentals any more?
They used to do it a lot.
Are they scared that people will steal/sample the music and put their own vocals on? If so, the band can sue, and get paid!
What Jamiroquai song would you like to have an instrumental of? |

Good answers.
However, I just want to make clear what my issue was:
I am talking about Instrumental versions of the Vocal songs - for example, we have Too young to die, Space cowboy, Deeper underground instrumental versions.
(Although now you mention it, there were no instrumental songs on Dynamite or AFO - however no Wallis Bucannan either) |

Well...it's the same answer. I mean, after they had success with the very danceable Classic Remix of Space Cowboy, the company focused on the disco/dance side of the songs, which provided more $$$.
The instrumental versions of the song exists, but they choosed not to release them.
Besides, you do have the 'Main Vein' instrumental and 'Little L' instrumental (you can hear this one on the DVD menu).

I myself is a big fan of instrumental music in general. And I wouldn't mind if Jamiroquai would put one or even two long instrumental killer tunes (à la Music Of The Mind) on each album in the future. I also wouldn't mind if the occasional instrumental masterpiece ended up as a "B-side" on a single (à la Space Clav). _________________ Old school forever! |

Exactly!
I do remember Frank Zappa joking about music being much harder to sell without some kind of a human voice propped into it.. but isn't it so nowadays! Let's face it: Sony had always been only in it for the money
No matter how important part the vocals are of this song, I'm thinking of a Revolution '93 instrumental.. |

Exactly. Revolution is half instrumental (it is long enough!).
So is 'Blow your mind' (part 2), 'Stillness in time' (vinyl version), 'Just Another Story' (intro and outro).
However, these are early songs...
I can only think of a few songs (e.g 'Tallula') that are examples of later songs with an instrumental parts.
I don't see how putting instrumental-type songs on an album makes it sell less.... Apart from maybe that there will be less songs to choose which songs should be singles to release.
Oh well, it was up to Sony. |
